9 Tips For Working From Home

Even though working from home has been my norm since 2018, there’s no denying working from home can be tough!!! Between doing laundry, feeding your child, grabbing a slice of toast for yourself, folding the laundry, doing the dishes, feeding the fur-kids, and doing the ACTUAL work you get paid to do whilst diverting ALL other distractions before whipping up dinner at 5 pm again … yep, easy it is not. With a global pandemic changing the game, so many of us who used to clock in at the office are now doing our thang from home sweet home. However, if you are new to world of remote working and are feeling a bit lost in your new workspace, then please DON’T STRESS. Here are 9 tips that helped ME focus as well as rock MY new space and norm.

1. YOUR NEW OFFICE

Whether you have a home office in place or creating magic from your dining room table, the key is to have a space where you can really buckle down and get stuff done. Chilling in bed with your laptop isn’t it.

2. ROUTINES

Create some.

3. NO SOCIAL MEDIA

Unless you NEED to log into Facebook for work, it’s best not to scroll those virtual pages during work hours. I think we can ALL agree you may have intended to log in for 5 seconds, but you’ll probs log out 5 hours and 700 hair video tutorials later. #guiltyascharged

4. Rules

Unless you have a baby, try and set rules for the rest of the population at home.

5. Take a break

Just like you would at the office, take a break to breathe, eat and relax.

6. Schedules

I CANNOT stress this enough, schedules are absolute lifesavers! If you haven’t caught on yet, trust me, they’re the secret sauce to staying on top of your game.

7. MAINTAIN YOUR WORK INTEGRITY

Watching movies instead of working is NOT the way to go. There’s a massive difference between switching off your laptop to take care of your children or pets, vs. NETFLIX and chilling during work hours.

8. WRAPPING UP TO-DO LISTS

If you did switch off your laptop to take care of LIFE, then be sure to squeeze in 30 mins after official working hours to catch up. This really goes hand-in-hand with maintaining your work integrity; and besides, ticking something off a long list of work to-do’s makes that pillow just so much softer come bedtime.

9. WINE-A-CLOCK

When all is done, have a glass of wine with friends, Skype with your mom, or simply chat to your spouse on the couch for a bit …. BECAUSE 👏 self 👏 care 👏 is 👏 VITAL 👏 .
